10 to 12 October 2013

‘Boundaries on the border’ is an open seminar for those who seek new boundaries, for those who defend the old ones, for researchers of human growth and development, for supervisors, for developers of organisations. For all these people in their different roles: as professionals and as clients, as acquaintances and as strangers, as supporters and as opponents. ‘Ordinary people’ without professional splendour or background are especially welcome. This seminar aims at supporting – with a light hand – authentic speech and the touching of important and topical issues. In itself, this seminar is an experiential learning experience: an attempt to approach and open up the dimensions of gaining new insights and the dimensions of possibilities. An attempt to ruminate together.

‘How to see? How to say it?’ We work and live our lives within various boundaries. Gradually we begin to see what has been on view the whole time; little by little we are encouraged to say what needs be said, and even that which has been left unsaid. As if in a miracle we pass through the impossible, and then we stop, amazed – realising that we have crossed the border. This seminar poses the question of what we know about boundaries, do we notice it when we cross a border, do we see and understand, what do we say and can we express what we understand?

’Important and topical’. The question of ‘important and topical issues’ renders us empty and irresolute when we do not know what to say. Uncertainty easily makes us underrate our own knowledge. At its best, that uncertainty may make us sensitive and it may lead us to becoming seekers. Without noticing it, we may also end up knowing more than we are aware of. Our own experience often knows more than we are aware of. The philosophy of lightness may help us study and recognise the boundaries. This seminar is a light-spirited yet serious-minded series of professional dialogues and individual encounters, of old questions, new answers, new questions and, perhaps, old answers.

Programme: Each day includes a short outdoor recreation trip and/or excursion, an insight discussion on the subject, science and art rounds, as well as an evening by the fire. It is also possible to participate for only one day. This seminar is part of the innovation and interconnection work of the Metanoia Institute. Hence, there is no actual participation fee. (Accommodation, meals and travel are at the participants’ own expense. Limited availability of accommodation!) There will be an open book market. You are welcome to bring your own books to the book market as well. Please note that minor changes may be made to the programme.
